Lucinda - Baby Gorilla and her kitten Cocoa A OOAK by Mary Jardin Wimberley

Once again dear ones, I’m selling one of my own children- Lucinda - Baby Mountain Gorilla. Lucinda has been with me for 9 years. She was created by myself and my ex husband, Ray Daub for me to pretend I had a real baby gorilla. He sculpted her face, hands and feet and I created a lifelike mohair body for her with a bendable Locline armature. She is 26" long and as far as I can tell, that's a reasonable size for her look.

She is sculpted, then molded and then poured out of a wax. vinyl mix and intrinsically tinted black. The wax/vinyl is very hardy and strong and is not particularly sensitive to heat. Just treat her as you would any special OOAK Artist doll. The sculpting is exquisitely detailed, expressive, and realistic. The basic structure of her primate face, ears, feet, hands are perfectly proportioned. Her round brown eyes are taxidermy and show subtle veining, a blue glint, accurate pupils and coloration. They are also very expressive with her raised eyebrows, slightly droopy eyelids and her lovely human eyelashes. Her mouth is slightly open which reveals just a bit of her pink tongue. She’s a doll and I’ll hate having tea without her. Yes, this is why I’m send her off with her own antique violet tea cup and saucer.

With the wax/vinyl sculpted body parts being heavy to start with and the body being additionally weighted, she weighs about 6 pounds and feels like a real gorilla when you hold her which makes sense since she was created for cuddling.

Her body was sewn of 3” black mohair which is glued securely over the tops of her hands and feet and around her head. The body pattern is quite detailed and accurate although it’s hard to tell with all that fur. But you will notice that the body allows her great freedom of movement-for instance she can wrap her arms and legs around you when you saddle her on your hip. She is not meant to stand on her own but likes to be held, attend tea parties and generally keep you company in an antique high chair, a empty cradle or in the arms of one of your favorite giant bears.

She wears three blue-lavender wired ribbons in her hair and a cotton lavender sun dress from Ecuador with a crocheted bodice and lace/ribbon trim.

She also has a best friend-Cocoa. Cocoa came to Lucinda when Karen Lyons and I exchanged my dressed mouse for her kitten. Now fast friends, Cocoa and Lucinda cannot be separated. So Cocoa will arrive in Lucinda’s arms if you are the lucky winner. Cocoa is 8” long and stands on all fours. She has a jointed head with wired arms, legs and tail. Her face, tail and lower legs are nicely trimmed. Her blue eyes and nose are plastic. She’s made of soft, fluffy, off-white synthetic fur which has been colored. Paws are needle sculpted and toes are painted. Her face is sculpted as usual. She adores Lucinda and is always close by.

You will also receive the nice child-size wicker chair which fits Lucinda so nicely. The back is 20” tall and it rises 12” to the seat. The gold/green floral embossed seat cushion is 12 ½” in diameter.
